"Mull of Kintyre" is a tribute to the location in Scotland where McCartney has owned a farm since 1966. The song was a major hit in the UK, where it was the first single to sell over two million copies, and was a #1 hit in several other countries, including Australia, Germany and Austria. One market where the single did not fair as well was in the U.S., where the B-Side of the release, "Girls School" reached higher on the charts.
"Mull of Kintyre" was written by Paul McCartney and Denny Laine and released on 11 November 1977. The music video was filmed on location at McCartney's farm on the Kintyre Peninsula and was directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg. The film features Wings members Linda McCartney and Denny Laine as well as the Campbeltown Pipe Band.
